Super
Bowl XL

So the Super Bowl is over. I really didn't care for either team. I was routing for the Seahawks though. I'm a Raider fan. The Immaculate Reception usually makes me route against the Steelers. But I digress. I was looking forward to seeing a real good game. But the referees made sure that was not going to happen.
The
officiating was downright atrocious, plain and simple. Here are some of
the bad calls.
- 1) The offensive pass interference call against Darrell Jackson was bogus. It was a touch foul. The best way I can describe it is a hand check in basketball. Jackson did extend his arm but it was so obvious that both players were fighting for position and that the "hand check" did not cause any separation. Because of the B.S. call the Seahawks had to settle for three points when they should have scored seven.
- 2) The Steelers got a break on Roethlisberger's 1-yard touchdown plunge on third-and-goal in the second quarter. Big Ben DID NOT get into the endzone. I don't care what Steeler fans say. As a matter of fact, Roethlisberger even said on the "Late Show with David Letterman" that he didn't think he scored.
- 3) Sean Locklear being called for holding early
in
the fourth quarter (the score was 14-10 Steelers at that point) was an another bad call. The replay clearly showed that Locklear was not
holding. That took away an 18-yard catch by Stevens. If the play would
have stood, the Seahawks would of been on the Steelers 1-yard line.
- 4) Three plays later Ike Taylor picked off a Matt Hasselbeck pass. Hasselbeck went low to make the tackle and was called for a 15-yard personal foul for an illegal block. This caused the Steelers to start on their 44. The foul call made no sense whatsoever. Especially sense Roethlisberger did the same type of block during the gadget play that put the nail in Seattle's coffin.
Yes I know the Seahawks could have played
better. Josh Brown could of made those two field goals. Jerramy Stevens
could of grown a sack and not dropped four balls. The hawks could of
played better defense so Willie Parker (who beat Marcus Allen's Super
Bowl record) would not of had a 75-yard touchdown run. Better defense
would of not allowed Ben Roethlisberger to scramble and complete a
37-yard pass to Hines Ward to get to the 1-yard line. The Seahawks also
only converted one of three red zone attempts. That's pretty sad
considering they were the best in the league in that area. How good you
ask? They had been scoring a touchdown on 71.7 percent of their trips
inside the 20-yard line. So much for that stat.
That being said, the officials still robbed Seattle. They also robbed Super Bowl viewers of a good game. I'm not Negrodamus so I don't know if Seattle would of won if the game was called correctly. But I do know the game would of been closer and much more exciting. Oh well there's always next year. Let's go Raiders...LET'S GO!
That's all I have to say.
Talk to ya later...
