The 2006 NFL Draft: Saint Reggie

Well it would appear that my NFL 2006 mock draft was a "little" off. But then again so was everyone's.

I could bitch and moan about the Oakland Raiders not being able to draft Vince Young. I could go on a tirade about the Raiders not trading down, drafting Jay Cutler, and getting some extra picks out of it. But instead I'm going to rant on the idiotic decision the Houston Texans made by selecting Mario Williams over Reggie Bush.

Charley Casserly (The Texans' Senior Vice President and General Manager, Football Operations) said that it was a football decision. That they needed to fill more important needs. Oh really? Hmmm ok. If that's the case then why not trade the first pick so you can fill the plethora of holes you have?

I find it funny that the city Houston has a history of screwing up with their first pick. Anyone remember the 1984 NBA draft? The Houston Rockets past on "some guy" named Jordan. It must be the water.

But I digress...

I don't know why the Texans didn't snatch up Bush. In my eyes he is the next Barry Sanders. Maybe it has something to do with the recent house scandal. Maybe they think he can't carry the ball enough. Or maybe they are just stupid. I think I'll take the latter. Reggie Bush is more than just a running back. He can be a serious threat receiving and returning the ball. Bush will be a threat to score every time he touches the rock. When this kid is becoming the next big thing, I wonder what Charley Casserly will have to say then. I realize that the Texans have a good running back in Domanick Davis. But lets go back to that same NBA draft in 1984. Portland thought they didn't need Michael Jordan because they already had Clyde Drexler. Last time I checked that didn't turn out to well for the Trail Blazers.

Even though I have no love for the Saints' head coach Sean Payton, (he turned down the Oakland Raiders' head coaching job) I am happy for Louisiana and the New Orleans Saints. After all the crap they went through last year with Hurricane Katrina, they now have Reggie Bush as the face of their franchise. Drafting Bush will put asses in seats. If any team deserves this kind of luck it is them. The "Big Easy" just took a giant step towards becoming a contender.

That's all I have to say. If you have any comments, questions, or insults shoot me an email at ryanmcbain@aol.com.
