  • Japanese student arrested for video game related death threat

A Japanese university student was arrested today after threatening to kill his friend following an arguement. Their dispute? Which Dragon Quest (Known as Dragon Warrior in the US) was the best. Apparently the evidence came way of internet posted material, which the police are currently using as evidence.

As some may know, Dragon Quest, the original top title for Enix before their merger with Square, is as big in Japan as Final Fantasy is here. Enix has previously had to not release titles in the series on weekdays, due to complaints of absenteeism from work and schools across the country.

Unfortunately, this news follows the story of the child pleading insanity after killing two cops in the U.S. from playing Grand Theft Auto. While it proves that this is not just a problem in the west, it does present further evidence as to just how far obsession amongst fans can go. Games Are Fun will keep you up to date on any other story that may challenge the integrity of us more mentally sound gamers. For the curious, the victim's favorite is unknown right now, but the individual arrested preferred Dragon Quest VI.
