  • San Francisco Club Pulls Plug On Hip-Hop Benefit Concert For 2-Year-Old

A contract dispute has put a benefit concert featuring Too $hort and other Bay Area rappers in jeopardy.

Too $hort was one of several rappers from the Bay that were tapped to perform tomorrow (September 2nd) at a club named Space 550 in San Francisco.

According to the San Jose Mercury News, organizers were holding the concert to raise money for Juliana Pena, 2, who was diagnosed with advanced neuroblastoma.

The rare disease only affects about 100 children per year, and will require the two-year-old to undergo a stem cell transplant and receive intense chemotherapy.

The organizer of the concert, Cochise Thomas, said he plans to sue Space 550 because he is in danger of losing over $15,000.

The San Jose Mercury News reports that the club suddenly closed for renovations, and when it reopens it will play only electronic dance music.

According to reps for Space 550, Friday's show was booked without the consent or approval of the owners of the venue.

Cochise Thomas said that he is still attempting to hold a concert to raise the funds for Julia.

"When his back is against the wall, he is still trying to do everything he can to make this happen," her father, Jesus Peña said. "He's just trying to give more awareness. He wants to still do this to let people know what we're going through."
