  • AT&T Says No New iPhone This Summer

News surrounding Apple's next iPhone has been a whirlwind of rumor and speculation this month, as chatter of an iPhone Nano and the possibility of the iPhone 5 being more akin to an iPhone 4 grows. Though Apple has yet to confirm the existence of the device, World Wide Developers Conference, the launching point for new iPhone hardware for the last several years, is fast approaching, but AT&T reps are allegedly telling customers that the latest handset will not be available this summer.

According to MacRumors, Apple has informed AT&T's customer care unit that they have no intention of releasing a new iPhone in June or July, although a newer version is still on its way. The report began with a tip from a customer who claims that a service representative informed him that his eligibility for an iPhone upgrade had been pushed back five months due to Apple's fall release schedule for the iPhone 5.
Apple has informed us that they do not plan to release the iPhone in the June to July timeframe, though there will be a newer version in the future. Unfortunately, we have not been given a release time for the new phone. We will release this information on our website when it is available to us.
Keep in mind, agents who assist customers on the front line are not usually the most well-informed group of the bunch, but tidbits of truth do occasionally have a chance of making their way down the pipeline.
