  • Sony Begins Reactivation of PlayStation Network in U.S. and Europe

Sony has begun the reactivation of PlayStation Network. The process will take several hours and will begin in the United States and Europe. A map has been posted on the U.S. PlayStation blog charting the service's restoration there on a state-by-state basis.

"It will take several hours to restore PSN throughout the entire country, so please keep checking back for the latest updates," Sony said in a statement, encouraging PSN account holders to download the latest firmware (3.61) and change their account passwords, "both of which are required to get online," once service resumes.

When PSN becomes active, it will restore online multiplayer and chat, friends list and trophy comparison functionality, PlayStation Home and services such as Hulu, Netflix and MLB.tv, said Sony Computer Entertainment head Kazuo Hirai, in the following video. PlayStation Store access will be restored later.
