  • Spiderman 2 news: Picture of Dr. Octopus

    SpiderMan 2
    Studio: Columbia Pictures
    Director: Sam Raimi
Screenwriter: Alvin Sargent, Michael Chabon, David Koepp, Alfred Gough, Miles Millar
Starring: Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco, Alfred Molina, Elizabeth Banks, Daniel Gillies
    Genre: Action, Adventure, Thriller
    Official Website: Sony.com/Spider-Man

    Synopsis:
As Spider-Man continues to pine for Mary-Jane, two new villains come up against him: Dr. Octopus and the Lizard. Two years have passed, and the mild-mannered Peter Parker faces new challenges as he struggles with "the gift and the curse," desperately trying to balance his dual identities as the web-slinging superhero Spider-Man and his life as a college student. Tormented by his secrets, Peter finds that his relationships with all those he holds dear are in danger of unraveling. His life-long yearning for M.J. (Kirsten Dunst) becomes even stronger as he fights the impulse to reveal his secret life and declare his love. His friendship with Harry Osborn (James Franco) is complicated by the young Osborn's bitterness over his father's death and his growing vendetta against Spider-Man. Even Peter's beloved Aunt May (Rosemary Harris), who has fallen on hard times after the death of Uncle Ben, begins to have doubts about her nephew.

    Some other Spiderman 2 news

Don't expect any upside-down canoodling this time. Mary Jane (Kirsten Dunst) and Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) are on the outs: MJ is pursuing acting and modeling, and Peter is going to school and foiling evildoers.
Mary Jane isn't waiting for Peter to come to his Spidey senses. She is linked with handsome astronaut John Jameson (Daniel Gillies), son of Daily Bugle editor J. Jonah Jameson.
Dr. Octavius won't woo Peter's Aunt May as he does in the comics — at least not yet. "That is a popular story line," Raimi says. "It might appear at a later date. Anything that puts Peter in a difficult situation, I'm for it."
The Sinister Six, a gang of villains (Vulture, Electro, Kraven the Hunter, Mysterio and Sandman) organized by Doc Ock, also will be missing in action for now.
Dr. Curt Connors, who was mentioned in the first Spider-Man, will show up in the sequel, played by Dylan Baker (Happiness). But any transformation into the Lizard, his evil alter ego, is on hold.
Betty Brant will put in another appearance. Played again by Elizabeth Banks (who is in Seabiscuit with Maguire), the secretary at the Daily Bugle will have a slightly larger part and could blossom into a future Peter love interest. "It is possible we could develop it," Raimi says.
Not slinking into the picture this time out is another Peter love interest, Felicia Hardy, aka Black Cat.
Though Maguire says he is definitely signed for another sequel, Raimi isn't sure about a third film. "I don't know if they are hiring me."

According to the LA Times, the budget for Spider-man II has hit the 200 million mark. We should see some really cool stuff for that amount of money!

Sony has announced that the trailer for Spider-man II will hit in November, just in time for those holiday movies everyone likes to watch.

Here are some details of Doc Ock's tentacles: "On the Doc Ock front, Alfred Molina's costume will more or less consist of a dirty lab coat, with his tenticles coming out of the harness on his back rather than his sides. While the tentacles will reportedly have the comic version three pronged claws, they'll also have another set of tiny claws in the middle that handle more delicate tasks."

Hall Sparks, from "Queer As Folk", recently spilled some news regarding Spidey's powers in the upcoming sequel. Hal landed a cameo part in the new film and had this to say:

"Hal said he got a call from his agent saying Sam Raimi was looking for an Improv comedian to film an elevator scene with Spider-Man. In the Scene, he is talking and chatting with Spider-Man while riding down an elevator. He said Spider-Man is taking the elevator because he loses his ability to shoot webbing. He didn’t say if he was losing all his powers. Only his web shooting ability, but he may be losing or loses all his powers."

    From SuperHeroHype.com:

First we heard that Sony Pictures would be showing the Spider-Man 2 teaser trailer with their upcoming "The Missing" on November 19, then a rumor surfaced that the studio instead moved up the trailer release with "Radio" on October 24. We've now received solid word that Sony may be going bigger... A LOT bigger. Sources tell us that the studio may now give us a first glimpse of Spider-Man 2 with New Line's "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" on December 17.

      More news

An anonymous sccoper sends in more news about the Final Scene for Spider-man II that will be happenning this week. "I can confirm that not only are the whole cast & crew set to return next Thursday; but also that THIS IS THE FINAL CONFRONTATION SCENE!"
Possible Spoiles Ahead: "Sam Raimi made it clear that we will not see the Lizard in this installment of Spider-man... which is technically true; however, Dylan Baker who will portray Dr. Curt Connors aka The Lizard; will be required to show on the set next week!! A fellow worker was led to believe that The Lizard's transformation will take place during this scene, therefore gearing up for the second sequel!!

The John Jameson story will likely carry through the next installment also, since Raimi is insisting on only one main villian per movie!

One final note was that a worker on the set got into a conversation with one of the producers and they were mentioning how one of the biggest critisms with SM1 was the lack of intensity! According to the producer, they said that Raimi was looking to go a "little darker" with this one!"
