  • Brock Lesnar Files Response To WWE Lawsuit

Brock Lesnar recently responded to WWE's claims that Lesnar's lawsuit against them was without merit in a paper filed to the U.S. District Court of Connecticut on 5/17. Lesnar also responded to claims by WWE that he violated their agreement for his release by appearing at a Japanese pro wrestling show in January.

Here are some of the major points from Lesnar's response:

Lesnar claims he was "without knowledge or information sufficient" that WWE had invested time and money in training and creating the Brock Lesnar character, "The Next Big Thing" gimmick name, and his F-5 finishing move. He also claims to have been unaware that WWE had spent time and money to promote him and establish him as a "top-tier" headliner in the company.

He claims WWE's view of his contract is incorrect, leaving the door open for the court to make a determination on the issue. That point is made a number of times in response to WWE claims that he broke the terms of his release.

He also claims he did not breach his contract after leaving WWE.

He denies knowledge of being released only to pursue a pro football career, and wasn't aware of the parameters of his release.

As pertains to mixed-martial arts or "ultimate fighting", Lesnar admits his amateur wrestling background would suit him well for such a sport, but denies he is "without knowledge" of other wrestlers who have competed in that sport. In regard to WWE's claim that Lesnar competing in a UFC type event would be a breach of his contract, Lesnar asks the court to make a determination on his contract and release.

He agrees that up until January of 2005, WWE had paid him $125,000 in royalties. He denies WWE's claim that it has "fully complied with all the terms and conditions of his settlement agreement."
